ADWAIT BADAWE MEMORIAL LECTURE 2007

The “Adwait Badawe Memorial Lecture Series” is a unique event in the calendar of Architectural students, faculty, fraternity and public in general, wherein a renowned personality in the field of architecture, art and design makes a presentation of his/her works and speaks about his/her design philosophy.
This annual event in its sixth year is jointly organized by Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha’s Dr. B. N. College of Architecture for Women and the Adwait Badawe foundation under the able management of Principal Anurag Kashyap, coordination by Pro. Suresh Modak, and the guidance of Ar. V. V. Badawe and his son Satyajit, in memory of the Late Adwait Badawe, who passed way in a tragic accident in the U.S. It has been endeavour of the Foundation and the College to invite the best in the field, and in this respect over the years such luminaries such as Ar. Rahul Datar of Singapore, Prof. Madhav Deobhakta, Eng. Dhananjay Dake, Ar. Kulbhushan and
Meenakshi Jain, Ar. Gurmeet Rai, and Prof. Y. D. Pitkar have presented their works and spoken on the design philosophy.
This year world renowned sculptors Madan and Aruna Garge from Nashik will be presenting “Architecture & Sculpture Fusion“a presentation of their works and its relation to volumes and spaces in architecture. The event is scheduled on Wednesday the 7th March 2007 at 6.00 p.m. in “Vishwabhavan Auditorium”, Symbiosis, Senapati Bapat Rd., Pune and is open to all.
Madan Garge was born in Nashik in 1945, and studied various styles of sculpture like western realistic, Roman, Indian Classical, Abstract and non conventional at J. J. School of Art in Mumbai, and for his excellent performance was awarded the gold medal. He married Aruna a brilliant painter, also from J. J. School of Art. Both of them have over the last three decades won many prestigious competitions of big monumental commission works. Many of the works are known as milestones in the field. Recently Madan Garge has received the “Nashik Gaurav” 2003 award. He is looked up to in the field of sculpture and is considered a Guru by many young and aspiring sculptors.
Madan and Aruna Garge have to their credit more than two hundred sculptures. They are masters in capturing man behind the skin in sculpture. Their sculptures set up a dialogue with the people in the global language of sculpture ie. form, proportions, shade, light anatomy and human expressions of life. Madan and Aruna have established one of the biggest studios in India, with four artists including their son Shreyas and around forty skilled and unskilled employees. Their sensitivity towards form, shape, volume, texture and the emotions their sculptures evoke, make them artists to be revered.
